Bathrooms Should Be Cleaned Once a Week—Here’s Why

bathroom

The bathroom is the ultimate breeding ground for bacteria. There’s no denying that the place where you clean your entire body, from head to toe, is the place where most bacteria are present. NBC reports that you should clean your bathroom at least once a week.

The question is, does anybody have the time for that? The trick is to make it the most important things in your bathroom as spotless as possible so you don’t spend so much time cleaning it the next time around. Here are the major things you should leave squeaky clean in your bathroom.

Towels

A bath towel that doesn’t dry is a breeding spot for bacteria. So if your towel is wet all the time, that’s a sign that you have to swap your towels. This applies to all towels, including the ones you have in the kitchen.

No one wants to hear this, but staphylococci and fecal bacteria are often found in bath towels. Research published in Home Hygiene & Health explains that towels and bed linens are closely linked with infection risks. The paper finds that the pathogenic organisms survive and spread as soon as they contaminate the said items.

Tubs

Homeowners should clean their tubs every two weeks. This does not need any explanation, especially since you use the tub every day. If you want to prevent bacteria from growing, make sure the tub is spotless as often as possible.

Soap scum and hair can contribute to the growth of mildew in the bathtub. If this happens, you run the risk of getting throat, skin, and eye irritation. And the presence of soap scum and hair can also block your drainage, causing more problems, including bacterial infections.

Sinks and Toilets

People turn to sinks to wash their hands and their faces and make these parts of their bodies clean. The good news is Scientific America considers sinks to be one of the healthiest places in the bathroom.

The problem, however, is similar to that of bathtubs—soap scum and hair. Leaving soap scum in your sink is as problematic as turning a blind eye on soap scum in your tub. Before causing any irritation on any part of your body, keep your sink clean and spotless.

The same goes for your toilet bowl. Again, this doesn’t need an explanation. The mere fact that this is where you rid your body of unwanted things should be enough to motivate you to clean your toilet.

Water Heaters

These bathroom components also need cleaning. Water might be the only thing running into them, but mold could form if there’s something wrong with one of its mechanisms. Doing it yourself is all right if you’re sure of what you’re doing. Otherwise, call for backup. In Orem, water heater repairs and cleaners know how to get the job done.

There are many ways to clean your entire bathroom. Apart from the suggestions given here, you can also vacuum and dust first, followed by heating the surface to soften the dirt that may have formed over the tub, tiles, and sinks, then scrubbing and rinsing them.
