foot care

Your feet get the most battery and abuse in your day. They take you places you need to go to and lets you do things you need to do.

Healthy feet are essential to your daily activities, so give them the proper treatment they deserve. If you neglect them, it might lead to foot problems and unnecessary pain and discomfort.

Proper care and treatment for your feet is not just a luxury; it is a must. It doesn’t have to be expensive, though. It only has to be consistent. We have listed down a few foot care tips you can easily do to help keep your feet happy and healthy.

9 Ways to Care for Your Feet

1. Wash them often.

Aside from your daily bath, washing your feet regularly helps keep them clean. Use warm soapy water. Do not soak your feet for too long, so they don’t lose their natural skin oils.

2. Dry them well.

Keep your feet clean and dry. Make sure to dry your feet with a towel after washing, especially between the toes. This is where most fungal infections develop.

3. See a podiatrist and foot therapist.

If you’re feeling some level of discomfort in your feet, see a podiatrist or foot therapist immediately. They offer more than foot therapy and toenail fungus treatment. Physio & Sole Clinic recommends having your feet checked at the soonest possible time to avoid significant pain and discomfort.

4. File and moisturise.

Moisturise your feet, especially if you have naturally dry skin. Apply and rub moisturising cream all over them, just not between the toes. Gently file away all excess skin and calluses using a foot file or pumice. Take extra care and do not overdo it. Otherwise, it will cause damage to the skin at the bottom of your feet.

5. Carefully cut your toenails.

Keep your toenails trimmed regularly using the right set of nail clippers. Gently cut straight across and not down the edges or at an angle. Clipping your nails in the wrong way increases the risks of ingrown toenails.

6. Wear the right footwear.

Most people take this for granted, but wearing the right footwear for the right activities reduces the risk of injuries and discomfort. You can’t go mountain climbing wearing only flip-flops. Neither is it recommended to hit the gym in loafers. Wearing the right shoe size also has great benefits.

7. Reinforce footwear if necessary.

Depending on the activity, you may need to reinforce your shoes with specialist footgear such as anti-slip soles. Schedule an appointment with a trusted podiatrist or physiotherapist and ask them for their recommendations.

8. Change socks every day.

Change your socks daily to avoid unpleasant foot odor. Use socks made from wool, cotton, or bamboo to allow your feet to breathe.

9. Limit flip-flop use.

As comfortable as they are, flip-flops don’t do much for stability, especially when engaging in activities that require plenty of footwork. It may lead to pain or even injuries.

Your feet are valuable to you because they take you places and lets you do important things. If you take good care of them, they will take good care of you and your affairs. Be kind to them and keep them happy.
